Angels serve another function, none of them had the relationship earned by millenniums of serving as “master worker”. No one besides Jesus, or aka Logos was beside him, being glad before him all of the time, being joyful at the productive land, this earth. Notice, too, the thing he was especially fond of was with the sons of men. In that case, and because of his sincere interest, this “word” would become a man, (“become flesh and reside among us”) which would earn him an inheritance.

Angels have served as ministers, or sent forth to minister for those who are to inherit salvation. Not so, though for the rebels in Eden. There at the entrance to Eden, with the flaming blade of a sword, cherubs were posted.

What was the reason for this barricade? The reason was, as Jehovah now stated: “here the man has become like one of us knowing good and bad, and now in order that he may not put his hand out and actually take fruit also from the tree of life and eat and live to time indefinite…” there he posted for a long time, or until about the 600th year of Noah’s life, around the year 2370 B.C.E. when the flood gates of the heavens were opened, the deluge came and swept them all away, thus wiping out Eden. (Ge 3:22-24)

Time has passed, but in one direction only-forward relentlessly. The past is won or lost, but tor the first man and woman, they are no longer innocently naked. They are clothed-with long garments of animal skin. They are just outside the entrance to the perfect Garden of Eden. Behind their backs is their former home, Eden. They look at the scene ahead of them. They see only uncultivated ground. Quite plainly it does not have God’s blessing upon it. Looking ahead now, they see before them thorns and thistles. Is this not the earth that they were commissioned to fill and subdue? Yes, but the first man and woman are not now out there for the purpose of extending the Garden of Eden over such unattended land.

Such a sorry sight- why do they not turn back and reenter the paradise garden? Easily suggested, but look at what is behind them at the entrance to the garden. “cherubs and the flaming blade of a sword that was turning itself continually to guard the way to the tree of life.” (Ge 3:24) The man and the woman would never get past these-they could never crash the gate alive into the garden! What Adam and Eve saw were materialized cherubs. The “sword that was turning itself continually” at the garden’s entrance was certainly kept in motion by God’s holy spirit, in order to keep out unholy humans.
