Did anyone read The Club of Queer Trades? I think out of Peter, Al, Therese, and I, I was the only one who got around to it.
I'd write about it, except it's the sort of book that giving spoilers would just ruin the fun of the surprise. It's about people in a social club that in order to join you must have a suffiently unusual and interesting line of work. It can't be one that is merely a modification of a normal job; an example of what wouldn't do is someone who sells insurance covering one's clothing against being chewed up or otherwise damaged by dogs, because although that would be unusual, it is a modification of the ordinary job of "insurance salesman."

I started but never finished. Part of the problem was that I don't like reading off the computer screen and I didn't have a print copy. What is driving me nuts as that I recall having a major revelation while reading one of the stories and I can't remember what it was. I may take another crack at it.

I'm sorry, I've been too busy standing four feet away from the Holy Father at the Epiphany Mass at St. Peter's.

The illustrations accompanying some print editions of Club of Queer Trades are excellent and sometimes surreal. I believe they are GKC's own drawings, and are not to be missed.
