I don't know what I was expecting when I gave SMC my 30 days notice today. Somehow, there should have been more fanfare. Maybe a cake. At least a "I survived nine years with SMC T-shirt."
Instead, I was handed a form by someone who looked like they were still in grade school when I started my sojourn here and rather unceremoniously wished good luck.
These minor events are always good reminders of precisely how little my perception of the universe really matter.
On a more touching note, the Memorial Chapel bells have started playing "Oh, Maryland, My Maryland" again (that's "Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree" to the uninitiated). I haven't heard the chimes play that tune since the first year I started, so it got me all wobbly and maudlin to hear it playing again as I make my grand exit off stage right. That, or it was the wasabi peas I ate at lunch.

Good luck Peter!
'Maryland my Maryland' is a great reminder to anyone confused about whether or not Maryland is a southern state.
Huzza! she spurns the Northern scum!
She breathes! she burns! she'll come! she'll come!
Maryland! My Maryland!

And don't forget:
Avenge the patriotic gore
That flecked the streets of Baltimore,
And be the battle queen of yore,
Maryland! My Maryland!
I really think we should revise more Christmas carols to include references to Battle Queens of Yore (which would also be an awesome name for a women's rock band).
