It appears that the Day of Silence vs. Day of Truth war is going to be waged on April 17th this year.
For those who have forgotten, it's the day that students are either supposed to refuse to participate in class to show solidarity with non-heterosexuals (the Silence part) or make inflammatory arguments against homosexual behavior (the Truth part).
I always find the silence part hilarious, since it means that the the DoS people can claim that everyone who didn't bother to do their homework is making a brave stand against the oppressive, imperialist ideology of heteronormalcy.
Nothing really evokes a sense of solidarity and bravery like an appearance of utter incompetence.
On the other hand, nothing really shows God's love and compassion more than wearing a t-shirt condemning the person sitting behind you to Hell.
Anyway, what I find most ironic this year is that the Day of Silence is falling on a Friday. This means that it will be pretty much left to the high school and grade schoolers to fight this one out since, as we all know, college professors and undergraduates fight tooth and nail to avoid having to be on campous on Fridays...
I suppose this means I'm going to have to make sure to hold office hours so as to avoid looking like I'm promoting homosexual behavior by not working on a day I'm not scheduled to work?
