The devastation in Haiti really is beyond my imagination, despite all of the disaster films that Hollywood has made since the evolution of computer graphics.
Not to politicize the unfathomable loss of hundreds of thousands of people, but it really does make the entire international stage of climate conferences, terrorism, and economics look like a pageant of absurdity. All those people worried about sea levels rising or bombs going off or just having a job tomorrow seem utterly misguided juxtaposed to the sheer volume of destruction by a quick geological shift.
We really are tiny creatures on this world...and the planet is just a very big machine that doesn't care a thing for us.
Oh, and for the Pat Robertson's out there, I refer you to Luke 13:
- 11 2 At that time some people who were present there told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices.
- 2He said to them in reply, "Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans?
- 3By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!
- 4Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them 3 --do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem?
- 5By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!"
