People keep telling me that job-hunting is a full-time job...so what does it mean that I'm job hunting while still at the tail-end of a full-time job?
Just to give you all a quick update...neither Isabel nor I have managed to line up gainful employment for next semester.
Usually, there is a small surge of last minute positions that open up in what is sometimes referred to as the "spring market." The surge this year is more like the lapping of a wave in a kiddie-pool.
This means that Isabel and I have started targeting generalist positions at community colleges and high-end boarding schools. While I certainly think we would enjoy working in such positions, they wouldn't necessarily make the most of our research expertise.
If you know any undergraduates thinking about going to graduate school in the humanities, feel free to use us as a cautionary tale.
